Goodbye October, Hello November

What a year it has been! From the shut down due to Covid19 and losing our entire Spring Break, we started with our heads hanging low uncertain of what the remaining season would be. With a thankful heart, this was the best season we have had yet. A huge thank you to everyone who has fished with us this season!

FISH REPORT!

The Bull Reds have showed up in full swing. From the middle of September to now we have been catching many Redfish, Black Drum and Black Snappers. The water is finally starting to clear up from Hurricane Sally and the water temperature is also dropping. The cooler water temperature means the Speckled Trout will be showing up anytime. We are starting to catch a few now.

Our Fall / Winter fishing trips will mainly target Redfish and Speckled Trout. Towards the end of December and first of January is when Flounders start to make an appearance as well. We are booking up now for the holidays.

If you are visiting the Emerald Coast for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years, think about booking a fishing trip. The cool weather and fall fish bite is a perfect combo for spending quality time with your family.

Inshore Fishing in Destin

Fishing in the calm backwaters here in Destin, Florida is super relaxing and you are guaranteed to have a great time. Most of our fishing is in the Choctawhatchee Bay and Intracoastal Waterways.

While bay fishing in Destin, we mostly target redfish or speckled trout, but it’s not uncommon to also target Spanish mackerel, black drum, sheephead, or black snapper.

We fish over grass beds, oyster bars, and around our favorite docks and bridges. We use the best ultra light tackle on the market from Shimano for reliable drag screaming action.

We also sight fish for Bull Redfish during the spring! There is nothing quite like hooking a 30+ lb bull redfish and being face-to-face with such an incredible species. (These are all trophy fish and they are catch and release only!) They definitely make a picture worth a thousand words. Don’t forget to bring the kids. They are the future of our sport. If they get to go, they will learn to love the outdoors. Remember your camera, you never know what you might hook while fishing in Destin, Florida – The Luckiest Fishing Village in the world!

Red Snapper Season Begins in Florida

During the April Commission Meeting, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved a 78-day recreational Red Snapper season in Florida State Waters that begins each Saturday and Sunday in May 2017. That makes the first day of the recreational season May 6th this year. Beginning May 27th, red snapper can be fished daily through July 9th in State of Florida Waters. The season will also allow fishing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in September and October, including Labor Day.

Remember that the FWC defines Florida State fishing waters as the following:

  • In the Gulf of Mexico, from shore to 9 nautical miles
  • In the Atlantic, from shore to 3 nautical miles

Other rules anglers should keep in mind that there is a 2 per person each day bag limit with a 10 per harvester per day bag limit (Charter Captains and crew limit is zero). Also, each fish must be a minimum of 16” TL. These limits are in place to ensure a sustainable red snapper population.

The Federal Regulations have also been announced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Federal Waters recreational season will begin June 1st and end June 3rd for recreational fisherman from privately owned boats. This will be the shortest season ever for federal waters. Federally permitted charter operations (For-hire Components) season will allow a total of a 49-day season beginning June 1st and ending July 19th. The short recreational season is being blamed on overfishing which occurred in 2016, which NOAA reports exceeded the limits by 129,906 pounds.

Bring your Family and friends out for a day on the water chasing down a beautiful red snapper for yourself. Book your charter today with Destin Inshore Charter or Destin Offshore Charters by calling (850) 685-9368. Captain Chris Kirby, Shelby and the entire team will make sure that you have a great experience.

Gulf Fishing In Destin Florida

BacklashWe also have a custom 40ft Infinity Sport fisherman, complete with air-conditioned cabin, bathroom, TV, fridge, and microwave. All the amenities to keep you comfortable while fishing with us on the beautiful emerald blue waters off the coast Destin, Florida. Destin’s near-shore and offshore fishing takes place in the Gulf of Mexico and is a must when vacationing to Destin. The varieties of Gulf trips we offer are:

  • Bottom fishing for Red Snappers, Amberjacks, White Snappers, Vermillion Snappers, Triggerfish, and Groupers.
  • Inshore Trolling for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Bonito, and Blackfin Tuna.
  • Offshore Trolling for Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Blue Marlins, White Marlins, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Blackfin Tuna.
  • Shark Fishing!! Don’t forget to ask about Shark fishing. This is always a hit with the kids!

With the laws the way they are right now the red snapper sizes are abnormal size from years past. The average snapper we catch in close range is from 8-10lbs with a few 15-18lbs fish being caught. We use light tackle for them. Young children can use these rod and reels much easier than heavy conventional tackle. For the more experienced angler to test his or her skills, we also have ultra light tackle that is sure to give anyone a big thrill.

We like to do a lot of chumming to get the fish right up under the boat for some awesome in-your-face bites that you can see!

Whichever type of fishing you would like to do, we can make it happen. A lot of customers like to do a little of both trolling and bottom fishing so they get the best offshore fishing experience!

Don’t forget to bring the kids. They are the future of our sport. If they get to go, they will learn to love the outdoors. Remember your camera, you never know what you might hook while fishing in Destin, Florida – The Luckiest Fishing Village in the world!
